SOLARWATT glass on glass solar panels
In 1998 SOLARWATT introduced the world’s first glass on glass solar panels and they now exclusively manufacture glass on glass solar panels. In 2016 SOLARWATT released the first ever 300 watt glass on glass panel and they are now the market leader in Germany and Europe.
The main advantage of glass on glass is very simple, glass does not age, breakdown or chemically change over time. The outer 2mm thick glass layer reliably prevents water and oxygen from reaching the high performance PERC (Passivated Emitter Rear Cell) solar cells and they are also protected from salt spray and ammonia. The use of glass on both the upper and lower sides guarantees maximum solar cell protection as cell fractures and damaging hotspots are prevented.
Most standard solar panels have glass on the front that is 3mm thick – by using glass that is only 2mm thick SOLARWATT panels remain cooler in hot temperatures which increases solar power production during the summer months. The glass is also treated with anti-reflective treatments which also increases production by up to 4.5%.
SOLARWATT glass on glass solar panels are have successfully passed the “large hailstone test” which used 45mm hailstones instead of the standard 25mm. This ensure they can and do withstand Australian conditions.
Why glass on glass in superior to standard solar panels:
When standard solar panels are stressed most commonly due to mis-handling, fractures or micro-cracks in the solar cells occur this permanently reduces the amount of power the solar panel can produce. A SOLARWATT panel can only bend along the neutral axis and the cells are not stretched or compressed as a result solar cell fractures cannot occur.
SOLARWATT solar panels are 100% made in Germany – they are not “German designed” or “German engineered” both of which are meaningless terms generally used to promote inferior products.
SOLARWATT solar panels have a 30 year performance guarantee and a 30 year product warranty – this is 3 times the industry standard!

This is a topic we have covered before and now there is some scientific evidence to back up our claim that it is not worth cleaning your solar panels if you live on the Sunshine Coast. The University of Wollongong recently tested the effectiveness of cleaning solar...
Following the introduction of new and more stringent terms and conditions the Clean Energy Council (CEC) have advised that more than half of the solar panels currently on their approved list have not agreed to the new terms and conditions and will therefore expire...
We are often asked if it is worth installing solar panels on Sunshine Coast homes and the answer is a resounding YES! Let’s ignore the sales rhetoric and focus instead on the facts: How much energy will solar power produce per day? This is a simple question but a...
Almost everyone’s heard of solar panel horror stories. In an industry where the average household spend amounts to thousands of dollars, sadly there are always likely to be shonky operators and scammers trying to take advantage of people. At The SunWorks Solar...
We are often asked why someone would pay a little extra for a SolarEdge solar power system over a traditional string inverter and here are a few reasons why SolarEdge should be the only choice for your solar power system Increased Energy Production: If your roof...
